Excellent points. Embracing cycling and making small investments in infrastructure could really benefit Savannah's economy and the bank accounts of the city's citizens. Less money spent at the pump means more money for everything else.
Yes, occasionally pedestrians are a nuisance, and sometimes I am baffled to see someone pushing a baby stroller down the middle of the road. However, I consider these brief inconveniences to be nothing compared to the constant barrage of selfish and dangerous drivers in Savannah. Whether I'm on my bike or driving my car, I'm constantly having to brace myself as cars and trucks lurch into intersections as they speed to a semi-stop at stop signs and stoplights. Trying to anticipate whether these vehicles are going to stop at all is a constant stress when navigating the streets of Savannah by foot, car or bicycle.
