THE SAVANNAH Music Festival has announced the lineup for its 2018 festival. The celebration of world-class music from around the globe returns from March 29 to April 14 with new venues, new artists, and new opportunities to enjoy all the festival has to offer.
SMF”s offerings will have music lovers on the go for 17 days straight. Here are some of our top picks:
Bluegrass’s own Rhonda Vincent & The Rage and Claire Lynch Band kick off opening night.
Paul Thorn Band joins The Blind Boys of Alabama for Mission Temple Fireworks Revival.
Savannah’s Benedetto Guitars celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. SMF pays tribute to the luthiers with a special concert featuring Pat Martino, Howard Alden, Chico Pinheiro, Romero Lubambo, and “King” Solomon Hicks.
Alphonso Horne and Terell Stafford will honor the greats with an original production: Trumpet Masters: Celebrating Louis Armstrong & Lee Morgan.
Trinidadian trumpet player Etienne Charles will premiere Gullah Roots, a co-bill with Charleston’s Ranky Tanky. Ranky Tanky recently performed at Music File Productions’ Revival Fest.
At BIRDMAN LIVE, jazz drummer Antonio Sanchez scores the Academy Award-winning film Birdman.
Argentine singer-songwriter Juana Molina performs an original score for 1934 Chinese silent film The Goddess.
North Mississippi Allstars will perform at Ships of the Sea Museum, replacing Steve Earle & The Dukes, who are listed in the festival program but who since canceled.
Savannah Music Festival at Trustees’ Garden, April 14
Though SMF is an extensive celebration, the organization takes a day festival approach to its grand finale. Attendees can purchase a single ticket to enjoy a packed schedule at the new 8.5 acre campus at the brand-new Trustees Garden.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gillian Welch, Marc Broussard, Brent Cobb, Brett Dennen, Septeto Santiaguero, Mipso, Sammy Miller & the Congregation, Betsayda Machado y Parranda El Clavo, Velvet Caravan with special guest Jessica Ann Best, and Stringband Spectacular will all perform. Guests can enjoy a vendor marketplace and local and regional food and refreshments.
Block 1 General Admission tickets are $99.50 and $249.50 for VIP Access. When the Block 1 tickets are sold out, prices will rise to Block II levels, so act fast.
