This ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique in which 1800° glowing red hot works are removed from the kiln and placed into a reduction chamber filled with combustibles is sure to inflame and inspire. This is an advanced techniques class focusing on alternative firing methods. We will explore traditional Raku as well as horsehair and saggar firing. Students will make their own pots to experiment on using different clay bodies. Ceramics experience is required. Ages 17+.
