The Back River Ramblers

Impressive trio of local songwriters (who’ve played Nashville’s Bluebird Café), including “Georgia” Kyle Shiver, Daryl Wise and Dobby Simmons. They play “marsh grass music,” meaning acoustic blues, bluegrass, and honky tonk country with traditional influences. Band In The Park

The Chris Chandler Trio

Chuck Courtenay, Jr. & Sr.

Eric Culberson Blues Band

Dueling Pianos

A high-energy show featuring facile, wise-cracking tag-team pianists from around the Southeast who try to one-up each other with off-the-cuff renditions of everything from country to rock to jazz to heavy metal tunes – all at the audience’s request. Wed. - Sat., Savannah Smiles.

Eat Mo' Music

Hard-grooving instrumental funk-jazz quintet of trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar and drums. Sat., 9 pm, Jazz'd Tapas Bar.

The 8-Tracks

Eclectic local cover act (featuring members of Superhorse and The Judge & The Jury) playing everything from The Go-Go’s and The Ramones to Bob Dylan and The Police. Sat., 10 pm, Mercury Lounge.

Elevado

Atlanta-based indie rock group that’s a full-on throwback to the weird and wonderful Georgia underground music scene of the ‘80s. Though it’s obvious from their approach that plenty has gone on and entered the pantheon since that time (notably grunge), the echoes of Athens stalwarts like Love Tractor and Time Toy exist alongside hints of Tom Verlaine’s – admittedly spotty – solo work, early Cure and the ethereal drone of Mazzy Star. This is atmospheric music that’s heavy on the atmosphere. Mon., 8 pm, The Jinx.

The Speaking Bean Slam

Monthly poetry slam and showcase hosted by Atlanta troubadour Kodac Harrison, and featuring noted Georgia poet Sylvia Cross. Thurs., 8 pm (signup at 7 pm), The Sentient Bean - ALL AGES.

 

The Hazzard County Band feat. Jason Courtenay

Brand-new local country/rock act with members of The Denny Phillips Band plus the vocals and guitar of one half of the popular duo The Courtenay Brothers. Thurs., 7 pm, Tubby’s (Thunderbolt).

High Velocity

Veteran group of local players (including former members of Bounty Hunter) offering hard-driving Southern rock originals and covers. Fri. - Sat., 9 pm, Silver Dollar Bar & Grill (Hwy 204).

The Hitmen

Local electric blues act led by guitarist and singer Brett “Hitman” Bernard that stays busy playing all throughout the region. Tues. (hosts Open Mic) - Wed. + Sat., Savannah Blues + Fri., 10 pm, Fiddler’s Crab House.

Just Shane Johns

This new “heavy rock acoustic artist”. is based locally and says he “plans to rock the world!” His show is followed by an Open Mic at 10 pm. Wed., 9 pm, Boba Internet Café (City Market) - ALL AGES.

Liquid Ginger

Very popular female-fronted modern pop band whose members are split between Savannah and Atlanta. They’ve released two impressive indie CDs that offer radio-friendly ear candy with just enough grit and crunch to appeal to rock fans. Sat., 1 pm, The Grill Beachside (Tybee) + 9 pm, Sea Dawgs (Tybee).

Moonshine Still

Macon-based jam sextet that’s starting to take off, but is still deserving of much greater acclaim. Fri., Locos Deli & Pub.

Harry O'Donoghue

Traditional and contemporary acoustic Celtic tunes from a longtime local favorite. Wed. - Sun., Kevin Barry’s.

Ricardo Ochoa & The Jazz Tango Kings

Refreshing local act led by the talented multi-instrumentalist Ochoa (The Richard Leo Johnson Trio, ARTillery Punch). As the name implies, they offer danceable jazz with an Argentinian slant. Fri., 9 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.

Old-Time Jam Session

Part music lesson, part history lesson, and part Open Hoot, acoustic string musicians sit in and jam on mountain and country music from the early 1900s. Mon., 7 pm, The Sentient Bean - ALL AGES.

G.E. Perry w/Strange Brew

Jazz-influenced electric blues guitar, featuring mouth-harpist James Gay. Wed., Fusion/The Monkey Bar.

Red Moon

Reggae-influenced South Carolina jam-band. Fri., JJ Cagney’s.

Paul Reeves

Voodoo Soup

Loose and swinging rock act that likes to flex its muscles on uptempo rock, soul and blues covers. Expect lots of fiery guitarwork and some seriously deep grooves... Wed., JJ Cagney’s.

The Greg Williams Band

Increasingly polished folk-into-rock act centered around the prolific local songwriter Williams. Ideal for fans of Tom Petty or John Hiatt. Fri., 9 pm, The Oyster Bar (Wilmington Island) + Sat., 9:30 pm, Scandals (Tybee).

Zero Chance

Postmodern pop-rock act that was a top contender a few years back on the USA Network’s FarmClub showcase. They’re part of the Aware family of indie record distribution. Sat., 8 pm, The Sentient Bean - ALL AGES.
