At the stroke of midnight, prepare to be scared.
That's the general idea of the Psychotronic Film Society's brand-new screening series at Muse Arts Warehouse. It's called the Friday Night Fright Fest.
It is, as always, the brainchild of Psychotronic bossman Jim Reed, who's proven time and again - to everyone's delight - he's not old enough to know better.
"When I was a kid," he says, "some of the most formative experiences that I had at the movies were when I got to see brand new movies at midnight, that were only shown then because they seemed too freaky or frightening to be shown during regular business hours."
In fact, Reed says, those "formative experiences" - tacked on to his deep appreciation for really trashy and badly-made movies - that led to the establishment of the Psychotronic Film Society, which was named Best Film Series in Connect's Best of Savannah readers' poll in 2012.
The first Friday Night Fright Fest is May 25 - this week, friends - and it's The Corridor. It's a Canadian horror film with no actors you've ever heard of. But this might make the sale:
They've been the best of buddies for more than a decade, but now they're changing - getting married, getting fired, going bald, going crazy. During a male-bonding weekend they will discover a spectral corridor through the woods - an impossible hallway where none should be. It will lead these five men into fear, into betrayal and into the biggest change of them all: by weekend's finish ... they'll be dead.
Cool! See you there!
Says Reed: "I'm hoping that folks in this area who dig horror movies will be as excited about this series as I am, and that getting together on the last Friday or every month will soon become a tradition that everyone looks forward to. If that happens, then we'll do this year-round."
Admission is $10. Must be at least 15 years of age. Seating limited to 100 people.
