Yamacraw Bridge. A people whose leaders were instrumental in the founding of the state, a neighborhood where the bridge touches down in Savannah, and the name of the bluff where Oglethorpe landed. Name it "Yamacraw", and open the newly renamed bridge with a performance of "Yamekraw" by James P. Johnson, a piece for jazz piano and orchestra that is named for the old Yamacraw neighborhood. "Savannah Bridge" is boring and safe. "Yamacraw Bridge" is everything.
It's been called "star jasmine" a lot longer than "Confederate". It's native to southeastern Asia. "Confederate jasmine" is a name that doesn't even date back to the Confederacy.
