We are currently seeking a dedicated and versatile multimedia journalist to join our dynamic team. We are seeking an individual with a news sense who can work to develop their own, original content in a fast—paced environment.

Job Description:
As a multimedia journalist, you will help our newsroom distribute content using social media platforms and digital news stories. You will give our stories life through short video interviews, audio clips, photos, infographics and more. These assets should be original work meant to enhance our storytelling and engage with our audience in a dynamic way. You will utilize social media to find interesting, community stories that may be missed in daily press releases. This role will also help in monitoring our website and posting digital stories as they are edited. This dynamic role requires someone with strong writing and communication skills who is eager to create content for our audience that can’t be found anywhere else.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Generate Original Content:

• Utilize video, audio, infographics, and other media to tell compelling stories
• Ability to utilize phone camera or DSLR to capture video and photos
• Be a self-starter—initiate ideas and cover events, people, happenings not covered by other outlets
• Be able to conduct independent interviews and write stories on tight deadlines
• Get creative and try new approaches in the service of better storytelling

2. Post Stories to our Website and Social Channels:

• Share digital stories daily on social media platforms and think critically about how to engage our audience—polls, teasing upcoming events, weekend happenings, etc.
• Promote our internal events on social media as they occur throughout the year
• Think critically about what stories and re-posts may get the most engagement and what content would do better on Facebook vs. Instagram vs. X, etc.
• Post digital stories on our Connect Savannah website
• Utilize a consistent voice that matches Connect Savannah’s brand throughout all social media channels

3. Deadline Management:

• Work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times
• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple story assignments and social channels at once
• Actively seek out timely content that other media sources may not cover

4. Collaborate with Newsroom:

• Collaborate with other reporters, editors, and photographers to ensure comprehensive coverage of news stories
• Share story ideas and insights with the editorial team
• Work with staff to meet company goals for page views, unique visitors, and social media growth
• Constantly scan social media channels of other news outlets, companies and organizations to find compelling stories

5. Monitor Engagement:

• Utilize Google Analytics and Metadata from Facebook and Instagram to drive engagement
• We currently don’t use TikTok, but we would like to! Come with new ideas for how we can engage our audience on this fast-growing platform

6. Other Duties as Assigned

• At times, help curate and approve newsletters that are distributed weekly via our email database

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field preferred
• Previous multimedia journalism experience is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level candidates.
• Strong news sense and judgement
• Experience in videography and photography
• Proficiency in photography and multimedia reporting.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Adaptable and resourceful with a strong news sense.
• A commitment to journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.
• Must live in the greater Savannah, GA area or willing to relocate
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Drug free work place.
• Must have a valid driver’s licenses.

  1. Analysis and Interpretation:
    • Ability to analyze economic and business data, explaining the implications for growth and development.
    • Offer insights into policy changes, market shifts, and other factors influencing growth and development in the region.
    • Experience filing FOIA requests and using public records
  1. Networking:
    • Build and maintain a strong network of sources within the business, industry, and community sectors.

    • Collaborate with other reporters and editors to develop stories that provide a holistic view of growth and development.
