I do not agree with the idea of "hate crime" legislation. Tell me now, who can truly say that one form of hate is any more grevious than another? All violent crime originates from some form of hatred and/or ignorance residing in the individual perpetrating the crime. We really already have enough laws on the books to protect one person from violently attacking another.
Your comment that these two groups are diametrically opposed to one another is true however and a very good reason that gays don't belong in the military. Our current administration's policy of politicising this issue to repay support of the gay community is truly sad. Talk about setting the stage for more violence of this nature to occur, that will certainly be the case. Many in our society still do not accept that lifestyle and do not want it openly displayed before them as some gay groups seem intent on doing.
