If Mr. Parker gifts the globe to the city, it will be far more than a PR situation. It will be a savvy maneuver by a highly gifted businessman who understands the costs involved in the mitigation of the environmental problems on the site, after which he can proceed with yet another mediocre piece of sprawl to "enhance" that corridor. I don't blame him, nor the sellers, who have turned southside into a giant parking lot. As I have opined many times before, "Money talks." We never learn.

And perhaps by then our politicos and the public will realize that SCAD and houses of worship have for too long been given a pass on paying their fair share of taxes. The former because they're about as non-profit as Union Camp and the latter because separation of church and state has nothing to do with paying taxes for the services you receive from government.

I have been told that many nail salons are owned by traffickers who use slave labor to staff them. If that is true then Savannah is also a hotbed for them and they need to be investigated.

Another good place to work on this is all our fast food and takeaway restaurants, most of which still use Styrofoam, plastic straws, and plastic bags. Straws should only be given when requested and need to be the biodegradable kind. Food should either be wrapped in paper or Chinese food containers made of paper. Better yet, spend more time in the kitchen and less at those chains which even offer eye pollution with their garish signs and sprawling drive throughs and parking lots. On another subject, I don't care if the Associated Press handbook now says it's correct, the word "black" should not be capitalized when used any more than "white" should be. It's ridiculous and pretentious and changes nothing. Just more BS to have to wade through.

The racism door swings both ways. Canonizing all blacks as well as demonizing all of them is as wrong as doing the same thing to whites. And also incorrect is capitalizing "black" when it's not at either the sentence beginning or part of a proper name. When did that absurdity become the norm? Knock it off, writers and Connect, please!

And continually left out of the discussions is that we have had an explosion of the human population in the last hundred years to rival that of any other species not checked by nature. We over-breed, breed badly, poison the earth, then ask for money to find cures for the results of our bad breeding and toxic substances so we can continue to do it.

Although I understand the reasoning behind all these cancellations and erring on the side of caution, I also feel it prudent to point out that Italy has the OLDEST population in the world - old as in age of the population, not civilizations. That is the reason why so many are sick and dying over there, not because of the virus per se.

This virus targets the old and infirm, not the young and healthy. Even 75 year olds who are not immune compromised are probably going to have a fairly short course of infection and will survive. On the other hand, a 75 year old who is sick already is probably not going to make it. Please stop hoarding toilet paper and FYI you do not need bottled water unless your water system has been compromised. Jeez, people, get a grip!!!
