152nd Anniversary of the Siege and Reduction of Fort Pulaski

When: April 12-13 2014

Commemorating the April 10, 1862 battle in which the Union army at Tybee Island converged on Fort Pulaski and, after 30 hours, the brick walls of the Fort were breached, and the Confederate fort surrendered. This was the first significant use of rifled artillery against a masonry fort and had international ramifications on the future design and construction of coastal forts.The fort commemorates this anniversary with special focus tours and living history demonstrations throughout the weekend. Reenactors from the Palmetto Battalion will be available to interact with the public, providing a unique opportunity to experience garrison life of a Confederate Fort Pulaski.
