SCAD holds Community Education workshops, open to the public, Sept. 13-Dec. 12

City of Savannah –– Savannah’s Place for Art, Culture and Education (S.P.A.C.E.) is registering students for fall visual arts classes and workshops. Children, teens and adults in all skill levels. Sessions begin Sept. 20 & Oct. 4 and are held at Department of Cultural Affairs’ S.P.A.C.E. studios, 9 W. Henry St. Sessions include ceramics, fibers, metalsmithing, stained glass and painting.  New offerings in jewelry & metalsmithing include courses in chainmaking, custom jewelry mechanisms, clay jewelry, metals & glass, and an open studio. SCAD –– The Savannah College of Art and Design announces its Fall 2010 Community Education workshops Sept. 13 through December 12. Each class is taught by a certified professor and held in one of SCAD’s cutting–edge facilities, or online. These innovative courses are offered to adults and teens 15 and up. Portfolio Development Class: The Modern Painter –– Nov. 3 (4–6 pm), Nov. 10 & 17 (6–8 pm) at the Telfair’s Jepson Center This class for high school students and young adults emphasizes painting and color theory. Visual Thinking Strategies Practicum for Educators –– Nov. 19–20, 9 am–4 pm at the Telfair’s Jepson Center. This two–day workshop open to all educators will focus on Visual Thinking Strategy–a method first tested at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and now widely implemented. Henry St. Student Ages 6 – 10 4 Weeks; Instructor: Christine Hefner. Parent and child will work together with clay creating hand built works of art. Final projects will be bisque fired and glazed.
