Savannah- Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Unit is investigating three downtown robberies that occurred between Feb 19. and Feb. 24.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, a couple was walking in Washington Square when a suspect approached them and produced a firearm and subsequently robbed them. The suspect is described as a black male of a dark complexion wearing a black skull cap and all black clothing during the incident.
On Feb. 22 at approximately 8 p.m., a couple was outside a restaurant in the 100 block of River Street when a suspect approached them and snatched the male victim’s wallet. The suspect then ran east on Factor’s Walk. The suspect is described as a black male with his hair styled in short twists. He is approximately 5 feet 8 inches and wore a black t-shirt and black and white checkered pants during the incident.
Just after 2 a.m. on Feb. 24, Metro responded to an armed robbery report in the 200 block of East Bay Street. The suspect reportedly approached two victims and engaged them in conversation. The suspect then produced a firearm and robbed the two victims of cell phones, wallets and keys. The suspect is described as a black male of a light complexion with a mustache and approximately no older than thirty years old, wearing a black hoodie and dark pants during the incident.
"Detectives are working to determine if these robberies are linked and to identify any suspects involved," says Darnisha Green of the SCMPD's Public Affairs Office.
