Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Animal Control Division is kicking off “Walk Your Pet Month” and “National Train Your Dog Month” by hosting dog walks at local parks in the month of January.

"Animal Control will be walking dogs from the animal shelter at dog friendly parks around Savannah. Animal Control will also be on site to answer any questions the public may have about the adoption process," says Darnisha Green of the SCMPD's Public Affairs Office.

The first walk will take place on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Daffin Park beginning at 8 a.m. The public is invited to meet and greet with the dogs.

Animal Control also encourages currently vaccinated dogs and their owners to join.

Citizens who choose to adopt any of the dogs presented at the walks will receive 50 percent off adoption fees. Citizens will be able to complete applications at the walks.

Anyone interested in walking a dog at any of the locations may contact Christina Sutherin at [email protected] or 912-525-3100 ext 1034.
