Southside Precinct detectives of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department "are investigating the theft of an automatic teller machine containing a significant sum of cash from a South State Bank branch early Sunday morning," police say.
Just before 5 a.m. Metro responded to a security alarm activation at the branch on Mall Boulevard. "Officers observed that the ATM was missing. A stolen boom lift used for construction was found behind a nearby restaurant on the 400 block of Mall Boulevard. Investigators believe the lift was used to remove the machine before it was placed in a vehicle with an unknown driver," police say.
