Guinness Records official arrives to check 'Crawl of the South'

Guinness World Records Official Michael Empric arrived today to oversee “The Crawl of the South,” Savannah’s attempt to break the record for the largest pub crawl.

The current record is held by Kansas City, Missouri with 4,885 participants. The Savannah Waterfront, Savannah Bar Crawl, and Stafford Promotions have teamed up to host “The Crawl of the South” on Saturday, May 31 from 1-9 p.m.

Participants can pre-register online for $15 until midnight on Friday, May 30 at barcrawlsavannah.com. Tickets can be purchased the day of for $20 at Ellis Square from 1-5 p.m. the day of the event.

There will be 30 bars are participating in the crawl. The record requires that "crawlers" visit at least 10 bars during the event and non-alcoholic beverages will not only made available, but count toward the win.

The first 4,886 participants to visit ten bars to turn in their crawl punch card at the after party will receive a free T-shirt. The after party will take place on Rousakis Riverfront Plaza on River Street where the announcement will be made shortly after 9pm when the Guinness official has verified the results.
