Demery Bishop, the longtime director of CrimeStoppers of Savannah-Chatham County has announced he is retiring, effective November 1.

Bishop has served as the director of CrimeStoppers since 1999. During his14 years, Bishop created CrimeStoppers Focus Radio, CrimeStoppers Focus TV, boosted the Reward Fund, modernized the tip collection and information sharing and started several community fundraisers including the Azalea Run and Boston Butt Sale. In 2012 Bishop received the U.S. Attorney Generals’ Award for Excellence for his work with CrimeStoppers.

Before he took the Director of CrimeStoppers job, he served with the FBI for 23 years.

Bishop said, "All of our citizens, law enforcement/criminal justice agencies, the Board of Directors, media and corporate partners here in Savannah made my job at CrimeStoppers an absolute joy each and every day! I enjoyed being here and giving back to the community, because they had true ownership in what we were all doing......combatting crime!”

Bishop says his future plans include spending more time with his family and spending more time surfing.

Interim Chief Julie Tolbert will appoint an interim director to CrimeStoppers until a new director is selected and hired.
