• A fender bender on Skidaway Road last week turned into a drug bust when the driver that caused the wreck began acting suspiciously. Officer Patrick Johnson witnessed a minor wreck as he sat in traffic at the corner of Skidaway and Bona Bella Road. As Officer Johnson approached the wreck, he could see the driver of the Ford Crown Victoria that had rear ended a Ford Expedition attempting to get out of the passenger side. Johnson detained the driver -- who was driving without a license -- before he could escape. He placed the driver in the rear of his patrol car, checked on the driver of the Expedition and called for an ambulance. As Johnson checked the passenger side of the Crown Victoria he spotted a handgun in the sand. Johnson asked the driver if it was his. He said, “No.” A pat-down search revealed $3465 in small bills. Johnson requested a K-9 to the scene. K-9 Officer Drayton and his partner, Chip found a large quantity of powder cocaine and marijuana on the passenger side of the vehicle. Again Johnson asked the driver if the drugs were his. Again he said, “No.” He was arrested and charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm, Following Too Close, and Driving Without a License.

 

• An officer responded to a Stuyvesant Street residence in Liberty City in reference to a complaint of a threat with a handgun. Upon arrival, the officer was met by a man who said an acquaintance had phoned in the complaint and he had no idea why the police were at his residence. The officer informed him that police had been told he may have pointed a handgun at his acquaintance. The man denied doing that. The acquaintance then arrived on the scene and again stated that the man had pointed a handgun at him. There were no witnesses to support either side. Warrant proceedings were explained and the acquaintance was advised to stay away from the man and his residence.

 

• A man riding a bicycle on Waters Avenue was stopped because his bicycle had no lights. The officer had stopped the man for the same offense five minutes earlier at Ott Street and Park Lane. The man had not even waited to get out of sight before getting on the bike instead of walking it. When he was stopped a second time, the man became visibly upset and raised his voice. He also began to pace and move his arms in an aggressive manner. Because the man had been cooperative and agreeable during the first stop, he had not been patted down. The second time, he was searched and a knife and some marijuana were discovered, and he was arrested.

 

• A Waldburg Street resident called police to say a man unknown to him was trying to enter his house, saying that he “lives there.” When an officer arrived at the scene, the man was observed at East Broad Street and Park Avenue. The resident told the officer the man had come to his door and had been banging and pulling on it as if trying to enter. He told the man to leave and then called police. He then went outside and saw the man in his driveway, near his car, and told him to leave again. The man was brought to the house and the resident positively identified him. Although the resident said he did not want to press criminal trespass charges, he did sign a form banning the man from the premises.

 

• Police were called to a local hotel in reference to a possible stabbing. Upon arrival, an officer spoke to a man who said he had seen a blood trail that led to a room on the second floor. He said he had talked with a woman in the he room, who said she did not know what happened. The officer then talked to the woman, who said she didn’t know what happened because she was in the shower. After talking with the officers further, she said her ex-husband came up to her room and started knocking on her door. When she opened it, she realized who it was and attempted to shut the door. They struggled back and forth. She said that he then left the area. Later, the woman’s husband contacted police and said his wife had stabbed him. A witness at the scene corroborated the man’s story, and the woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
