• A burglar who broke into a Food Lion on Victory Drive returned to the scene of the crime and was apprehended by a Savannah-Chatham Police K-9 Officer named “Binky.” The burglar got away after his first attempt; at the second burglary he could be seen inside the business, “but before officers could gain access to the building he escaped through the roof, only this time he met a different fate,” a police spokesman says. K-9 Officer Amanda McGruder and her partner, Binky, with other police circled the building and with the help of a Savannah Fire Dept. ladder, the suspect jumped from the building “in a further attempt to elude the officers.” Binky pursued the suspect into a canal and eventually into some woods, where the 20-year-old suspect was eventually caught.

• An officer was dispatched in response to a report of a disorderly person. The officer met with a woman who said “she and her husband got into an argument at their Waters Avenue apartment due to his snoring.” She said she woke her husband and that “he became disorderly and grabbed her arm and face.” The woman said she did not want to press charges and that “she knew the argument was petty, but she did want the officers to help her and her mother remove her child’s possessions from the apartment.” The mother said her daughter “has a temper and usually starts arguments.” The officers talked to the husband, who admitted arguing, but denied any physical abuse. Then women packed some items and left the apartment.

• A clerk at a liquor store on Pennsylvania Avenue reported that he had received a returned check written out to the suspect on a payroll account. The check was computer generated from a bank in Jacksonville, but the clerk learned there is no such bank in Jacksonsville. The check was recovered and logged into the police property room as evidence.
