Sat., 10 pm, B & B Billiards.
The Nein
A noisy and angular North Carolina trio that cops the snotty nose of Killing An Arab Cure and mix that aggressive melancholy with a sense of eminent decay. Their War Is On The Stereo is 100 percent out of step with whats being rammed down kids throats these days. It sounds like some great lost Stranglers track, and the robotic rhythms, declamatory vocals and snarling geetar of Paid In The Escalade recalls both the Gang of Four and Pylon. Who cares? You should.
Sat., The Jinx.
Passafire
Relatively new locals blending reggae and rock influences into their originals. Fri., B & B Billiards.

Self Help Tapes
Low-fi postmodern throwbacks to the glory days of Joy Division and Love and Rockets. Crappy and loose in many places but well-constructed and tight in others which works just fine, given the overall mood they seem to be going for. Love those affected vocals!
Sat., The Jinx.
Sleep Comes Down
Modern rock band that draws on 80s art-pop like The Psychedelic Furs for inspiration. Pennsylvanias Tonight We Escape also appears.

The John Tisbert Group
Swing and bop from a local trumpeter and his trio.
Sat., 9 pm, Jazzd Tapas Bar.
The Toss
Hot on the heels of The Darkness comes this Belgian quintet of metal revisionists. They dress like Punky Meadows and sound like a cross between David Kemper-era Focus and the first Klaatu LP.
