1st Friday For Folk Music

Monthly, coffeehouse-style concert series featuring local, regional and national acoustic acts. This installment includes local Celtic troubadour Harry O’Donoghue (host of GPB’s The Green Island radios show), locally-based 6 and 12-string guitarist Chris Desa, and Marcus G, a SCAD professor originally from Canada, who recently released an album of his own, spiritually-themed folk and pop. The Oscar Perez Trio

A child piano prodigy weaned on his father’s Cuban folk music and schooled at NYC’s  “Fame” high school for the performing arts, this jazz composer has played and/or toured with Bunky Green, Phoebe Snow and the great Wycliffe Gordon. He’s in great demand as a sideman. Fri. - Sat., 8 pm, The Jazz Corner (Hilton Head).

G.E. Perry & Strange Brew

Roadhouse band led by a celebrated local electric guitarist, playing blues-rock. Sat., 9 pm, Fiddler’s Crab House.  

Phantom Wingo

Southern rock-tinged jams (a la the Allmans, Panic), featuring the soulful lead vocals of guitarist Tyler Roe. Sat., 8 pm, The Warehouse. 

The Polk & Keller Jazz Duo

Brendan Polk is a young piano prodigy and David Keller is an experienced bassist. Together they offer their own takes on jazz standards. Sun., 7 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.  

Kim Polote w/David & Alisha Duckworth

Red Eye Jedi

Acoustic duo (covers and originals) featuring two brothers best known for their roles in local indie-rock/reggae/ska act Argyle. Thurs., 9 pm, Fiddler’s Crab House.

Savannah Blues Fest

Not to be confused with the Roundhouse’s upcoming Battlefield Blues & BBQ Fest, this is more of a raunchy R & B revue featuring a bevy of established artists from the past 4 decades, including Shirley Brown, Theodis Ealy, Mel Waiters, Floyd Taylor and Roy C.  The headliner, however, is X-Rated S.C. soul brother Marvin “Candy Licker” Sease, whose latest CD, Women Would Rather Be Licked, needs no explanation. Sat., 8 pm, Civic Center.

“Georgia Kyle” Shiver

Greg Williams

Wise & Wolling

Noteworthy duo of a banjo wiz (Jimmy Wolling) and a longtime fixture on the local acoustic songwriting scene (guitarist and vocalist Darryl Wise), banding together for an evening of traditional tunes and blue and folk-based originals. Fri., 9 pm, Fiddler’s Crab House.
