The Kieran Daly Duo
This young mandolin wizard first came to prominence in The Lowcountry Boil Bluegrass Band, but like other adventurous pickers, he’s eclipsed the stringent confines of that genre to embrace the improvisational elements of jazz. A standout talent. Sat., 8 pm, The Sentient Bean.

Grayson Manor
You’ll think you’ve gone through a wormhole and wound up in 1988 when you see the bedraggled mops, Flying V guitars, wristbands and drumstick-twirling moves of these unabashedly retro Atlanta glam-metal throwbacks, led by zealous frontman Brad Cox. Charlotte’s Strip City Sinners open, with a throat-shredding set of Little Ceasar and Faster Pussycat-esque skag metal that’s as trite as their tattooed, bird-flipping press photos, but no less (guilty) pleasureable. High Velocity

The Billy Hoffman Trio
Jazz combo led by one of the area’s most versatile and experienced trap drummers. Fri., 9 pm, Jazz’d Tapas Bar.
Geoff Koch
Voted Best Singer/Songwriter in St. Louis, Mo., this solo acoustic guitarist’s emotive approach is reminiscent of Ryan Adams as well as a slightly hopped-up Elliot Smith (both avowed influences). Wed., 8 pm, The Sentient Bean.
Liquid Ginger
Extremely popular local modern rock band with a female vocalist. They play both well-known radio hits and their own independently released original material. Sat., 10 pm, Wild Wing Café.

The Denny Philips Band

Aaron Raitiere
This touring guitarist and singing songwriter describes his music as “traditional acoustic blues/bluegrass/alternative/country/pop with regular original words, and sometimes long words too, put to a melody, and sung with a drawl.” Impressive but reclusive local indie-rock tunesmith Dave Williams opens with a rare set of newish material.
