The Big River Film Festival announced today that it is accepting film submissions and sponsors for it inaugural event, to be held July 8-9, 2016.

With the slogan "Championing Independent Filmmaking," the Festival says it "will add a new section in partnership with Savannah Filmmakers Association to showcase work by filmmakers from Georgia," according to a spokesperson.

In its first year, "the Big River Film Festival will offer access to creative voices through film programming, master classes, live performances and conversations with the most compelling independent artists working today," say the organizers.

"The primary mission of Big River Film Festival is to introduce productions, professionals, and film students to the state of Georgia and all that we offer. The Festival’s signature programs include Filmmaker In-The-Know, Coffee Talks, Master Classes, Screenings, Awards and more. The Festival will premiere nearly 100 features and short films created by rising independent filmmakers across the globe. The Festival will host a number of juried cash awards, as well as audience awards."

A portion of all proceeds will be donated to The Savannah Filmmakers Association's educational programs, organizers say.
